The MDOT Wall in more detail

I’ve stitched together 3 photos to create a panoramic image of the whole wall from the ‘My Dad’s on Twitter..’ event last week. The main image is shown below, and available to download as a large image from the link, then there are some smaller, close-up shots and below a few key points raised on the wall itself. More to follow.

For me, the most notable points to come out of both the discussion AND the format are:

- Why are you happy to twitter about something in a room but hesitant to write it on a wall in public? Are you hiding behind an online persona?

- Lets use the format to talk about something else useful, it’s a tool. Imagine if all newspapers talked about were newspapers?

- Finding and evolving new uses for media from unexpected places

- There is more than just YOUR community out there. Don’t be blind to think that the way you use social media and the people you talk to represent the network

- If you put Twitter in the title of an event aiming to attract people who DON’T use Twitter in an attempt to get different perspectives and share some knowledge, you’ll just attract people who already use Twitter.

.. some of what you wrote on the mind map…

“Imagine if most of what Marc talked about in the Post and Mail was Newspapers?”

“There’s no real fail mechanism within social media. ”

“Archives build up over time, server failure, documented life over. The Internet exists of memories”

“Performance conversation”

“Twitter is a tool, there are others”

“[Social Media] Exploitation by traditional media”

“Does the network protect itself?”

“Is there a gender divide? Is there an age divide?”

“Corporate snobbery and political snobbery [in social media circles]”

“Evolving behavior”

“Focus on the relationships, not the technology”

“There’s more than one community on Twitter”

“I Twitter because I love people”

“The beginning is nigh, or are we just repeating ourselves?”
